   Jobs for Delaware Graduates has received a grant of $30,000 from the Wal-Mart Foundation. The grant will benefit challenged high school students throughout the state of Delaware. The JDG grant is part of $500,000 the foundation awarded to Jobs for America’s Graduates affiliates in a total of seventeen states to support youth success…

   Bayhealth’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Associates, the office of perinatologist Garrett H.C. Colmorgen, has received a three-year accreditation by the Ultrasound Practice Council of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

   Perinatology and prenatal genetic counseling became available when Bayhealth Maternal Fetal Medicine Associates opened in September 2008. The practice offers sophisticated perinatology care for mothers with high-risk pregnancies in addition to the neonatology care currently available for high-risk infants. Services include obstetrical ultrasound examinations, related procedures such as amniocentesis, and genetic counseling for parents. Kent General also accepts Level II maternal transfers from other hospitals in the region.

   Colmorgen is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology as well as in maternal-fetal medicine. After receiving his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School, Colmorgen completed his internship and residency at Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, N.J., and a fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia…

   Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Peggy Hamburg was one of a number of distinguished visitors to Fifer Orchards in Wyoming during a fact-finding tour to learn more about produce safety in Delaware. Hamburg received a briefing from Curt Fifer, who described the operation of his business’ apple packing line.

   Dr. Adeline Ndi Nukuna will join Khan Obstetrics & Gynecology in Dover and will have full medical privileges at Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital. Nukuna will provide her expertise on fetal medicine, reproductive endocrinology (infertility), urogynecology, gynecologic oncology, general obstetrics and gynecology.

   Nukuna completed her residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. She received her Ph.D. in Medical Microbiology and her medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Neb. She is a member of Phi Beta Delta, the national honor society for international scholars.

   Bayhealth Oncology Services has named three persons to leadership positions.

  John Shevock of Dover has been named director of operations-oncology services; Trisha Bentley of Frederica has been named cancer institute coordinator; and Laura Ryan, of Wyoming has been named clinical manager of radiation oncology.

   Previously the manager of radiation oncology for Bayhealth, Shevock now has Bayhealth-wide responsibility for medical oncology, radiation oncology, physics, the cancer registry and office functions of the physician practices. A Bayhealth employee since April 2004, he holds a master’s degree in business with a concentration in information technology management and a bachelor’s degree in animal science, both from North Carolina State University. Shevock earned a certificate in the management of clinical research studies from the Durham Technical and Community College and recently became a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

   For more than two years, Bentley has served as Bayhealth’s breast care coordinator, and previously was a nurse on Bayhealth’s 1A Medical-Surgical Unit. In this new position, she continues her role as breast care coordinator while also enhancing screening and outreach programs, securing resources for the uninsured and underserved and linking them with community partners, overseeing the clinical trials program, the state screening nurse navigator and the care coordinators at both Kent General and Milford Memorial Hospitals.

  Bentley received her bachelor’s degree in music theory from Roanoke College in Salem, Va. She received her nursing training at Morrisville State College in Morrisville, N.Y. and is pursuing her master’s degree in nursing leadership from Wilmington College.

  Ryan has held a leadership role since she joined Bayhealth four years ago, previously serving as the lead therapist for radiation oncology and last year also became clinical instructor for Thomas Jefferson University radiation therapy students, who spend a year working one-on-one with Bayhealth radiation therapists. In her new role, she now has clinical responsibility for radiation oncology at both Kent General and Milford Memorial Hospitals. In addition to her associate’s degree in science from Widener University, Mrs. Ryan is also certified in radiography and in radiation therapy…
