A Smyrna man has been hospitalized in serious condition following a crash early Sunday morning.

   The accident occurred at 12:45 a.m. Sept. 27, on Brenford Road, approximately two miles north of Cheswold, said Delaware State Police spokeswoman Cpl. Jaime Dorsey-Sterner.

   The injured man was identified as Stephen Cerko, 36.

   According to preliminary reports, Cerko was driving northbound on Brenford Road when his 2009 Honda Accord was hit by a 2006 Dodge Ram, driven by Joshua Hammond, 22, of Dover. Hammond was driving southbound on Brenford Road, Dorsey-Sterner said.

   Cerko was taken by ambulance to Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital and admitted in critical condition. His front seat passengers were treated for minor injuries at KGH.

   Hammond also was treated at KGH and treated for minor injuries.

   No charges have been filed as the investigation is ongoing, Dorsey-Sterner said.
