Haydn Daniel Leathery, 76, of Felton, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009.


    Friends of the late Haydn Daniel Leathery, 76, of Felton, may call on the family at noon Wednesday, March 4, at the Melvin Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Highway, Harrington, where services will take place at 1 p.m.

    Mr. Leathery died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

    Born in York, Pa., he was the son of the late Harry R. Leathery and Anna B. Toomey Leathery.

    Mr. Leathery was a U.S. Army veteran, having served for 22 years, and retired at the rank of sergeant first class. He traveled all around the world, but the most special place was to Frankfurt, Germany, where he met his wife, Anna. They settled in Felton following his retirement from the Army.

    He will be remembered for his passion for helping others and for his shopping trips with his wife as they looked for items for family, friends and acquaintances. He loved to watch birds and to feed his favorite species, the humming bird. He also enjoyed watching all types of sports.

    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Matilda Freere, Esther Biehn, Pauline Sheffer and Bernadette Little; and his brothers, Dale Leathery and Wilbert Leathery.

    Mr. Leathery is survived by his beloved wife, Anna Leathery, with whom he would have celebrated 51 years of marriage in April; his twin sister, Nancy E. Williams of Camp Hill, Pa.; a sister- and brother-in-law, Irmgard and Joseph Stadler of Woodland Beach; two nieces, Diana Shade and Debbie Steller; a nephew, Fritz Johnson; and his extended family at ILC Industries of Dover in Frederica.

    Interment will be in the Hollywood Cemetery, east of Harrington.
