Thomas P. Murphy, 54, of Dover, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009.


    Friends of the late Thomas P. Murphy, 54, of Dover, may call on the family at 1 p.m. Sunday, March 1, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, where services will be held at 2 p.m.

    Mr. Murphy died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at the Delaware Hospice Center, Milford.

    Born April 7, 1954, in New York City, he was the son of Catherine Brickley Murphy and the late Eugene J. Murphy.

    Mr. Murphy had worked 25 years at numerous casinos in Atlantic City as a high-rise tech. For 18 years he worked as a stationary engineer at Clairage Casino Hotel. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 68 in New Jersey.

    After moving to Dover in 2005, he worked for the state of Delaware as a HVAC specialist in Dover and worked one year at the Veterans Home in Milford. He loved boats and fishing and antique cars.

    Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Lou Smith Murphy of Dover; a daughter, Jillian Gayle Murphy of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, Eugene J. Murphy Jr. of Valdosta, Ga.; and two sisters, Karen Palato of Orange Park, Fla., and Carol Stise of Wall, N.J.

    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Murphy’s name may be made to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
