Dorothy V. Thornton, 87, of Hartly, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009.
Friends of the late Dorothy V. Thornton, 87, of Hartly, may call on the family at noon Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the St. Peters Episcopal Church, 22 N. Union St., Smyrna, where services will be held at 1 p.m.
Mrs. Thornton died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at home.
Born June 23, 1921, in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late George L. Veazy and Dora Wahl Veazey.
A homemaker, Mrs. Thornton was a member of the Mamie Warren Senior Center, a past member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2 Ladies Auxiliary, RSVP and St. Peters Episcopal Church. She had previously volunteered at the Delaware Council of Senior Citizens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George T. Thornton Sr., who died March 9, 1994.
Mrs. Thornton is survived by her three sons, Edward A. Thornton of Camerilo, Calif., George T. Thornton Jr. of Felton and David R. Thornton of Hartly; a daughter, Dorothea A. Borkowski of Perth Amboy, N.J.; a brother, George R. Veazey of Wilmington; a sister, Eleanor Hoffman of Hockessin; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
In accordance with Mrs. Thornton’s wishes, there will be no flowers at her service.
Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, west of Dover.
