Friends of library extend hours
    The Friends of Dover Public Library, 45 S. State St., Dover, has announced that on Saturdays during February, the Carriage House will be open from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
    The Carriage House is the repository of thousands of books offered for sale, the proceeds from which benefit the Dover Public Library.

Kent MPO plans transportation plan update
    The Dover/Kent County Metropolitan Planning Organization will hold a special meeting from 3 until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, at the Blue Hen Corporate Center, Suite 210.
    The meeting is to have discussion and action on the regional transportation plan update.

Hogan last to file for city council seat
    Dover City Council President Kenneth L. Hogan has filed the necessary paperwork to run for re-election to his First District seat in upcoming municipal elections.
    Hogan, 64, has represented the First District since 2004.
    With his action, he became the last incumbent council person to declare their candidacy for re-election.
    Only one candidate, Eugene B. Ruane of the Second District, has an opponent; he has been challenged by former council member William F. Hare.
    Prospective candidates for city council must file election petitions no later than Friday, Feb. 13.
    The Dover city elections will be held Tuesday, April 21.

Public hearing on comprehensive plan to continue
    The public hearing on the city of Dover’s 2008 comprehensive land use plan will be continued during a special meeting of the Dover City Council, at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in the city council chambers, Dover City Hall.
    This meeting is a continuation of a recessed meeting held Jan. 5.
    The hearing will be conducted under the following guidelines:
    • Written testimony may be given to the city clerk and will be distributed to council members before the hearing.
    • A sign-up sheet will be available up to 15 minutes before the hearing for those who wish to speak.
    • To be placed on the sign-up sheet, citizens may contact the city clerk by calling 736-7008 or sending an email to tmcdowell@dover.de.us.
    Copies of the proposed land use plan are available at the entrance to the council chambers; the city website, www.cityofdover.com; at the city library; and at the city planning office in City Hall.
