Pressley Beauty Academy re-locates to New Burton Road, tripling the amount of space of its former location. The school continues to offer cosmetology certification and offers classes for nail technicians and hair stylists.
The Pressley Beauty Academy did more than just move its location on July 7. It added more space and new equipment.
“I feel like now, the students get their money’s worth,” said owner Brenda Pressley. “The school is more state-of-the-art.”
Pressley bought the Dover Beauty Academy four years ago and had operated her beauty school on South Governors Avenue. At the same time, she was owner of the Scissor Palace in Smyrna, which she has since sold.
“I realized owning two was too much,” Pressley said.
The new location at 1417 New Burton Road was formerly a restaurant which was totally gutted to transform it into a beauty school.
Additionally, the new site practically tripled the size of the school from 1,600 to 5,000 square feet.
That has translated to 16 brand-new hair cutting stations, a hair washing area with European-style shampoo bowls, a pedicure room, a waxing room, a theory room for textbook work and an elevated demonstration stage. Pressley and her office manager now have spacious offices as opposed to the cramped quarters at the old building.
“There were three of us in an 8-by-8 office,” she said.
Pressley is one of four instructors at the academy offering 15 to 45 years of experience each.
The academy is accepting applications for August and September. Rates vary depending on the course and financing is available, she said.
Beauty appointments or walk-in clients who would be served by an instructor-supervised student are welcome.
