David W. Brown, 84, of Dover, died Saturday, July 26, 2008.
Funeral services for David W. Brown, 84, of Dover, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, at the Torbert Funeral Chapel, 61 S. Bradford S., Dover, where friends may call beginning at 9 a.m. Mr. Brown died Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital, Dover.
Mr. Brown was born June 8, 1924, in Wildwood Crest, N.J., son of the late John W. Brown and Isabel Hutchinson Brown.
He was a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Theta Chi the alumni associations, and the Cap and Skull. In his youth he was the captain of the Wildwood Crest Lifeguards.
Mr. Brown was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Later, he was a civil engineer for the Public Service Electric and Gas Company in New Jersey and was best known for his work with the U.S. Olympic Committee, where he was chairman of the New Jersey fund raising committee and an Olympic official in track and field.
He attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Dover, enjoyed traveling, and being with his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Beulah “Bea” Brown, on Dec. 31, 2006.
He is survived by a son, David W. Brown Jr. of Media, Pa.; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Brown Cutrona and Francis Cutrona of Dover; and a brother and sister-in-law, John “Jack” and Jean Brown of Pennfield, N.J.
Also surviving are a brother-in-law and his wife, Charles Gilbert and Betty Davidson of Philadelphia; a sister-in-law and her husband, Gladys and W.C. Augerouth of Stratford, N.J.; three grandchildren, Gillian Cutrona Fuller and her husband Joseph, Paige Brown Cutrona, and Damon Brown Cutrona; and a great-granddaughter, Lily Autumn Fuller.
Interment will be in the Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Cold Spring, N.J.
