New quilting store opened May 24.
Angie Russell started quilting after the birth of her daughter five years ago.
Her hobby turned into a full-time profession as she, Stephanie Redick and Edna Touhill opened Chicks-N-Stitches May 24.
The shop is geared more toward accessories, Russell said, offering quality fabrics and books. In addition, they will be offering evening and weekend classes to teach the art of quilting.
“The [business] is more for people to make quilts and learn how to do it,” she said.
Although they shy away from selling quilts, the three likely will make some of the samples made in the classes available for purchase.
“We’ll probably sell our samples at some point during the year,” she said. “If someone were to ask us for one, we’d probably consider it.”
Russell said Chicks-N-Stitches will hold a grand opening July 19 to display and sell the newest patterns and fabrics obtained from a national quilt market in Oregon, held twice a year at different locations. She said manufacturers use those events to launch the newest styles.
Russell doesn’t believe the art of quilting is that tough to pick up, and found people have trouble finishing their project if not on a specific deadline.
Chicks-N-Stitches, located at 1151F E. Lebanon Road, Dover, in the Route 10 Plaza, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.
