City of Dover officials are reminding citizens that designated snow emergency routes should be kept clear of automobiles to allow snow removal equipment to plow the area.

Cars should be moved off roadways and onto driveways whenever a snowstorm threatens, said city public affairs office Kay Deitz-Sass.

“By freeing up the additional street space it allows for the plows to clear more of the roads making them passable for you as well as for emergency personnel,” Deitz-Sass said. “It is important to have the cooperation from the community so we can clear the roads to an acceptable degree.”

Cars parked in snow emergency route areas may be towed if they interfere with snow removal operations, Deitz-Sass said.

A city snow removal hotline has been implemented and is operational when the city received six inches of snow or more. If citizens feel an area is being neglected, they should call and report it to 736-5085.

Tentative hours of operation for the phone line are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. depending on the level of calls.

Dover residents also should be prepared with adequate food, water, and medicinal supplies for all family members, including pets, Deitz-Sass said. A detailed list may be found on the city of Dover website, www.cityofdover.com.
