    • Despite drizzly weather and the constant threat of rain, the Dover Police Department, Whatcoat Village Apartments and Target stores held the annual National Night Out Tuesday. The department, along with local fire and emergency departments and a contingent from Dover Air Force Base, used the event to bring about more awareness of drug prevention and community strengthening efforts. At Whatcoat Village children were given the opportunity to sit on a police motorcycle and were given a demonstration about Police K9 units. Several hundred people came to the event in the Target parking lot, prompting police Sgt. Chad Bernat to say, “We just wanted to be able to give back to the community and we’re happy so many people came out, despite the weather.
