- Local residents broke out their bathing suits four months early for Lewes Polar Bear Plunge fundraising event Sunday, Feb. 5. Supporting Special Olympics Delaware, this year’s event was just four shy of last year’s record for participates set at 3,685. One record was broken on the day though: the water temperature was 47 degrees which was the warmest its been in 20 years.
